The Lens

Searching PatCite to find patent document citations

  1. Login to The Lens.
  2. Click on 'Our Apps' and select 'PatCite' from the dropdown menu.
  3. In the menu on the left of the page select 'Cited scholarly work found in patents'.
  4. Add a list of identifiers either by adding them to the search box, or uploading a file of identifiers.  You can search using PMIDs or DOIs.
  5. Name your search (optional).
  6. Click on 'Submit Search'.
  7. At the top of the search page, you will see a summary which shows:
    1. The number of articles cited in patent documents
    2. The number of patent documents, and a breakdown of type
    3. The number of corresponding patent families
    4. The top cited articles based on patent family counts
  8. Below the summary you can toggle between a list of the cited articles and the citing patents.
  9. Use the filters to the left of the page to refine your results, e.g. you could limit your results to granted patents, or to a particular jurisdiction.
  10. To export the results, choose from the options listed on the left side of the page.
You can export a list of publications with DOIs from most databases, including Scopus and Web of Science. You can also export a list of your publications with DOIs from QUT ePrints.
