Publications in Q1 journals

Scopus (last 10 years only)

  1. Login to Scopus.
  2. Click on the 'Author' tab.
  3. Search using your last name and first name or initial.  You can also add your affiliation.
  4. Click on your profile in the search results.  If you have multiple profiles, you can merge them in this screen.  It can take approximately 10 working days for changes to your profile to appear in Scopus.
  5. Click on the 'Author metrics' tab.

Click on Author Metrics…

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you will find the author's output in top 25% of journals for the last 10 years.  To select another journal metric, click on the down arrow next to 'CiteScore Percentile' and choose from either Scimago Journal Rank (SJR) or Source Normalized Impact per Paper (SNIP).

SciVal

Explore (using predefined publication periods)

  1. Login to SciVal.
  2. Click on 'Explore'
  3. If you haven't used SciVal before, you will need to define yourself.  Instructions here.
  4. Select the period you would like to analyse. 
  5. Click on the 'Journal quartiles' in the navigation on the left of the page.
  6. Select the journal metric using the dropdown menu next to 'Share of publications per Journal quartile'.
  7. You can export to a spreadsheet or add to a report. 

Compare (1996 onwards)

  1. Login to SciVal.
  2. If you haven't used SciVal before, you will need to define yourself.  Instructions here.
  3. Click on 'Compare'.
  4. Click on 'All metrics' under 'Benchmarking'

Click on All metrics

  1. There are several ways to select metrics in the Compare section.
    • Click on the down arrow on the metric displayed next to 'One metric over time'.
      1. Click on 'Cited'.
      2. Select 'Publications in Journal Quartiles'.
      3. Select 'Q1 (top 25%)'
      4. Select your preferred metric out of CiteScore Percentile SNIP or SJR.
      5. Choose either the percentage of your publications or the number.
      6. Select the publication types you would like included. etc.
      7. Click on 'Add metric'.
    • Click on 'Manage multiple metrics'.
      1. Under the 'Metrics to add' section, you can choose what options you would like to apply to the calculation of the metric e.g. percentage or total value, publication types to inclue.
      2. Drag and drop 'Publications in Journal Quartiles' to the 'Metrics in the table' section.
      3. Click 'Update metrics'.  
      4. The metric will default to the percentage of publications in the top 10% of journals by CiteScore Percentile.  To make changes, click on the down arrow next to the the metric in the table, select your preferred options and click on 'Choose metric'.
    • Click on 'Add metric'
      1. Click on 'Cited'.
      2. Select 'Publications in Journal Quartiles'.
      3. Select 'Q1 (top 25%)'
      4. Select your preferred metric out of CiteScore Percentile SNIP or SJR.
      5. Choose either the percentage of your publications or the number.
      6. Select the publication types you would like included. etc.
      7. Click on 'Add metric'.
  2. If you've selected one metric, you will see the metric values for all years.  To get the overall metric for the whole period will be in the 'Overall' column.  If you've selected multiple metrics, the value shown under the metric headings will be for all the selected years.
  3. You can export to a spreadsheet or add to a report.

InCites

Searching using WoS Researcher Profile

  1. Login to InCites.
  2. Click on 'Analyze' at the top left of the screen.
  3. Select 'Researchers'.
  4. Ensure the 'Person ID Type Group' is set to 'WoS Researcher Profile'.
  5. Enter your name in lastname, firstname format in the search box at the top of the page.
  6. Click on the correct result.  If you have multiple profiles select them all.
  7. Using the menu on the left side of the page, select your filters including publication date.  You can also choose what document types you would like to include/exclude using the 'Document type' filter.  For example, you may like to remove meeting abstracts from your results, or limit to articles and reviews etc.
  8. Click on 'Indicators' on the menu on the left side of the page.
  9. Select 'Documents in Q1 Journals' for the number and '%Documents in Q1 Journals' for the percentage of eligible documents.
  10. Click '+Add'
  11. Click on 'Back to Indicators' to return to the menu.
  12. You can export your metrics by clicking on 'Download CSV'.  You can choose to download the overall metrics, or if you would like to see the metric for each publication year, select 'Trend Data'.

Searching using your ORCID iD

  1. Login to InCites.
  2. Click on 'Analyze' at the top left of the screen.
  3. Select 'Researchers'.
  4. Ensure the 'Person ID Type Group' is set to 'Unique ID'.
  5. Enter your ORCID iD in the search box at the top of the page.
  6. Click on the correct result.  If you have multiple profiles select them all.
  7. Using the menu on the left side of the page, select your filters including publication date.  You can also choose what document types you would like to include/exclude using the 'Document type' filter.  For example, you may like to remove meeting abstracts from your results, or limit to articles and reviews etc.
  8. Click on 'Indicators' on the menu on the left side of the page.
  9. Select 'Documents in Q1 Journals' for the number and '%Documents in Q1 Journals' for the percentage of eligible documents.
  10. Click '+Add'
  11. Click on 'Back to Indicators' to return to the menu.
  12. You can export your metrics by clicking on 'Download CSV'.  You can choose to download the overall metrics, or if you would like to see the metric for each publication year, select 'Trend Data'.
If you have multiple profiles in InCites, you can create a group to create combined metrics by selecting all the relevant profiles and then clicking on 'Create group' in the pop up box at the bottom of the screen and following the prompts.  Alternatively, you can select  'Baseline for All Items' using the 'Baseline' menu on the left of the page, if only your profiles are showing in the results.
