Collaboration in citation databases is determined by the affiliations listed in authors' by-lines on publications. Collaboration metrics can assist in demonstrating a researcher's ability to develop research networks domestically, and across borders, work with colleagues in industry or government and the citation impact of these collaborations. It can also show that a researcher is working with experts in their field of research.
