Sector Collaboration

What is it?

This metric analyses your output by collaboration with different sectors, including government, medical, NGOs and corporate, which can show your engagement outside of academia. 

How do I use it?

Collaborations with sectors outside of academia may help to demonstrate your engagement with end-users or colleagues in industry. 

SciVal

  1. Login to SciVal
  2. From the Explore tab, define or select your entity to search (e.g. researcher or institution)
  3. From the left-hand menu, scroll down to Collaboration metrics - Sector collaboration
  4. Use the radio buttons to select the type of sector collaboration e.g. Government, medical etc.
  5. Default metric is by Scholarly output and Citations. You can change the metric to Citations per publication or Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI)
  6. Scroll down to see visualisations over time by Scholarly output, Publication share (%), Citation count, Citations per publication or Field-Weighted citation impact. The table changes to the metric selected. 
  7. Export the metrics to Excel for further analysis or add to a Report. 

InCites

  1. Login to InCites
  2. Select the Report tab and type the name of the researcher into the search box using the WoS Researcher Profile
  3. Select the date range and if necessary the Dataset you wish to analyse. We recommend including the ESCI (Emerging Sources Citation Index) documents.
  4. Select the Collaboration tab and scroll down to see your Industry Collaborations as a total and a percentage. You can add these to a report.
