Citation indexes are the most common method of evaluating the impact of research publications by individual authors.  Tools for citation analysis include:

• Scopus
• Web of Science
• Publish or Perish
• Google Scholar
• Google Scholar Citations

This guide also provides advice on calculating one's h-Index, a commonly accepted measure of a researcher's overall scholarly output.

A number of tools are available for calculating the impact of journals. 

• Journal Citation Reports provides impact factors for scientific journals.
• The Journal Quality List compiled and edited by Dr. Anne-Wil Harzing, covers the areas of economics, finance, accounting, management, marketing, organisational psychology, sociology  and tourism.
• The Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) Journal Ratings List
• The Association for Information Systems' Journal Rankings edited by Carol Saunders, covers the areas of management information systems.
