Databases typically searched by advanced scholars
Advanced scholars researching a topic in science and technology or a cross-disciplinary / trans-disciplinary topic will typically search both Scopus and Web of Science platforms. These two rival search tools index very large datasets of academic literature. Having searched both databases expect to discover some duplicate results.
Engineering researchers will often fine-tune their search scope by searching the Engineering Village platform, which hosts both the Compendex and the Inspec databases, as well as GeoRef, which indexes literature in the earth sciences.
Search Compendex for all engineering topics whereas Inspec (produced by The IET in the UK) maintains a strong focus on electrical, mechanical and manufacturing / production engineering, computers and control, applied physics and applied mathematics.
