Library Databases

Bibliographic databases subscribed to by QUT Library of high value to VRES scholars

Databases typically searched by advanced scholars

Advanced scholars researching a topic in science and technology or a cross-disciplinary / trans-disciplinary topic will typically search both Scopus and Science Citation Index on the Web of Science (WoS) platform. These two rival academic literature indexing tools do cover a lot of same ground. Having searched both databases expect to discover some duplicate citations. You will find more conference papers indexed by Scopus as Science Citation Index largely confines itself more to the highly-esteemed peer reviewed journal titles.

Engineering researchers will typically search the Ei Engineering Village platform which hosts both the Compendex and the Inspec databases as well as GeoRef that indexes literature in the earth sciences.

Search Compendex for all engineering topics whereas Inspec (produced by The IET in the UK) maintains a strong focus on electrical, mechanical  and manufacturing / production engineering, computers and control, applied physics and applied mathematics.
