It is intended to interest those who design, implement and use systems for monitoring, modeling, planning and policy-making. Published research covers innovative applications of geographic information in natural resources, social systems and the built environment, and developments in computer science, cartography, surveying, geography and engineering in both developed and developing countries.

The journal publishes academic papers on aspects of the physical, human and environmental geographies, and landscapes, of its region; commentaries and debates; discussions of educational questions and scholarship of concern to geographers; short interventions and assessments of topical matters of interest to university and high school teachers; and book reviews.

Short articles of academic or applied geography, emphasizing empirical studies and methodologies, as well as book reviews. These features may range in content and approach from rigorously analytic to broadly philosophical or prescriptive. The journal provides a forum for new ideas and alternative viewpoints.
