Academic Search Engines

Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature across many disciplines and sources. These include articles, (some) books, conference papers from academic publishers, professional societies, online university institutional repositories, e.g., masters and doctoral theses, plus reputable publications in the web repositories of world-renowned research institutes. You can also find registered patents and patent applications from the major patent offices around the world.

Semantic Scholar

Google Advanced Search

Advanced Search functionality saves time and increases relevancy of results. Use the Advanced Search options in Google to:

  • Search by file type - i.e. PDF (documents without intro web page content)
  • Search by domain - i.e. .gov.au (useful for locating government reports)
  • Search by date
