How to find standards

This guide will help you find standards.  It is important that you use the relevant standards for the country concerned - usually Australia!

Australian standards

The national standards body for Australia is Standards Australia. It prepares and publishes Australian standards or adopts relevant international standards .

The Library provides access to the complete collection of current and draft Australian standards from Techstreet Enterprise.

Industry standards

Industry standards are created and published by industry bodies and professional associations. Many of these standards are available from relevant industry or association websites, however they are not always freely available. The Library provides access to a selection of:

• engineering, aerospace and materials related standards
• accounting and financial reporting standards.

The Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS)

The Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors provides information, training and guidance to its members

Regulation of the Construction Industry

• The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) supports Queenslanders by:
  • providing insurance that helps to safeguard building work;
  • helping make sure builders are licensed;
  • work is done to standard and any defects are rectified;
  • helping protect the building and construction industry from unscrupulous contractors
  • working to help tradies get paid.

Safe Work Australia develops policies and provides access to data, research and papers related to Workplace Health and Safety.
