Finding Economics Working Papers

Finding Working Papers via IDEAS and ECON Papers

What are JEL Codes?

JEL codes classify articles into sub-topics within the field of economics.

How are they used?

JEL Codes are appended to both journal articles and unpublished / preprint papers often referred to as working papers to classify the content, approach or method described in the article or working paper.

Why use JEL Codes to retrieve articles and papers?

The codes themselves provide an affordance to both browsing and searching for information and so may be used as a complement or alternative to keyword or free text search such as the method of searching provided by Google Scholar, Web of Science, EconLit etc.
