International business law

International business law1 relates to a wide range of business transactions across each type of international commerce:

  • export and import of goods and services
  • foreign direct investment
  • joint ventures
  • research and development arrangements
  • franchising
  • sale and distribution arrangements and
  • licensing of intellectual property.

The expansion and globalisation of international trade is due to the success of organisations such as the World Trade Organisation (WTO) who negotiate and regulate treaties and agreements.
