ASHRAE handbooks (via Engineering Workbench)

Search instructions

The ASHRAE Handbook series consists of four volumes. Each Handbook volume is revised and updated on a four-year cycle. The volumes are listed below with the latest year for each shown. Because technology and the interests of ASHRAE members change, some topics are not included in the current Handbook series but may be found in the earlier Handbook editions cited in the index.

A = 2019 ASHRAE Handbook - HVAC Applications 
S = 2020 ASHRAE Handbook - HVAC Systems and Equipment 
F = 2021 ASHRAE Handbook - Fundamentals 
R = 2022 ASHRAE Handbook - Refrigeration

It is recommended that you find the information you need before searching the database. To do this there are 2 options.

1. Review the Table of Contents for a given volume before searching the database with the chapter title.
2. Use the Composite Index to entire Handbook Series (Updated August 1, 2018) to find the index entry.
   • The index entry includes the book letter and the chapter number.
   • For example, the index entry S31 means the information may be found in the 2016 HVAC Systems and Equipment volume, Chapter 31.
   • Enter S31 to then select from the drop-down options.

Opening and printing downloaded PDFs

To open and print downloaded PDFs from Engineering Workbench:

1. Install the FileOpen plugin.
2. Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat/Reader (PDFs will not open in a browser).
